Changchun Newtop technology Co., Ltd.

The brake pad steel back hook processing equipment is a characteristic product of NEWTOP Technology, which is used to process scale like protrusions on the brake pad steel back to enhance the bonding strength between the brake lining and the brake pad steel back, and prevent detachment accidents. These devices adopt the creative processing technology of Xintuo Technology, making the processing more flexible, convenient, and cost-effective.

We are here to discuss some issues related to machining HOOKs on steel backs.

How to choose a machine

NT702B

The NT700 series is the most versatile product, characterized by flexibility, ease of use, and low cost. Suitable for small-scale production.

The production efficiency of NT702B is not high, and multiple devices are required to meet larger quantities.

NT702B is suitable for the following scenarios:
  • Producing special brake pads, the output is not large.
  • Due to limited budget, let's familiarize ourselves with the shoveling and stabbing process first.
  • NT704 and NT705 devices are already available for repairing defective products caused by broken knives and other reasons.

NT704

Widely used universal product with high production efficiency, especially suitable for automated production of large-sized steel backs.

NT704 can adapt to steel backs of various sizes and complex shapes. For steel backs with protrusions on the back or smaller sizes, production efficiency will be significantly reduced. For steel backs that require bi-directional stabbing, two clamps are required.

NT704 is suitable for the following scenarios:
  • Mainly featuring large and medium-sized steel backs with a flat back, while also considering other varieties.
NT705

An innovative product with dual directional hook processing capability, high production efficiency, suitable for mass production of small pieces.

NT705 is suitable for processing various steel backs of passenger cars, including varieties with raised backs. One clamping can complete the shoveling process in both directions. Due to size limitations, it is not suitable for larger steel backs such as commercial vehicles.

NT705 is suitable for the following scenarios:
  • Require bi-directional processing of small and medium-sized steel backs with hooks and spikes.

▼Parameters of HOOKs

Density and shape of HOOKs

HOOKs should be evenly distributed on the surface where the steel back is bonded to the friction material, with a commonly used density of 2-5 HOOKs per square centimeter. Adequate distance should be left between the hooked area and the edge and internal holes of the steel back.

The direction of the HOOKs: There is no significant difference in the shear resistance performance between the unidirectional processing HOOKs and the bidirectional processing HOOKs.The bidirectional HOOKs can be understood as a tradition left by the previous mold processing technology.

A reasonable HOOKs shape (especially the height of the HOOKs) is beneficial for reducing cutting resistance and improving tool life.

A good HOOKs should have an appropriate thickness; Width is 2-3mm; The height should be 1.2-1.8mm, and for ordinary passenger car steel backs, the height of the HOOKs should not exceed 2mm; The surface of the hook should preferably be rectangular or trapezoidal, and should not become sharp like a triangle.

The shape of the HOOKs mainly depends on the cutting tool, followed by the steel backing material, and then the processing parameters.

Cutting tool

Choosing cutting tools is crucial. The cutting tools used in the shovel hook machine can be divided into three categories:
  • Commercial hard alloy non regrinding cutting tools;
  • Modified products of the above-mentioned cutting tools;
  • User made cutting tools。

It is recommended to use the first type of Cutting tool as much as possible. And choose the appropriate model according to the actual situation.

Common tool models:
MGMN200-T PC9030; MGMN200-JH LF6028; MGGN200-JM LF6018, etc.

Material of steel back

The commonly used materials for steel backs are:
Q235B, Q345, S500Q, etc.

All other conditions being equal, the lower the yield limit of the material, the lower the HOOKs height obtained.

Steel should be made of qualified products from regular manufacturers, with uniform hardness and no hard spots.

Before processing, the steel back should undergo processes such as shot blasting and sandblasting to remove the oxide scale on its surface.

The steel back must be flat and the edges must be free of burrs.
